20+ hours of construction, 10+ yards of Hunter Green satin, and a nightmare and a half later, I finished this in October 2012 for Halloween and other assorted costuming. Made to be worn over a corset or boustier, the coat is adjustable with ribbon laces at the back. Featuring fully lined front and sleeves, pleated hem, front pockets, underbust cut, four-button closure, and organza ruffle trim, this is probably my favorite piece to date. It was made to match the embellished top hat a friend created for me. The hat is featured in some of my other deviations. It is one of the outfits inspired by an original character in the story I'm working on.

Am I wrong or is this the Simplicity 2171? I sewed the coat for myself (but shortened it so it's more a jacket) Was a bit tricky sometimes 'cause I used three differnt types of fabric. How do you do with the pattern? But beside very beautiful! :) The color is stunning.

I believe it was, with a girl in red and one in beige on the picture?

I worked very hard on it and fought with the pattern a good bit since it required so much fabric. Otherwise, I found it quite simple! (Until I accidentally forgot the pocket and turned the front piece around twice.) I don't always listen to the pattern and just follow my instincts though, but I did find the sleeve lining to be a fantastic technique. For the most part, it was easy enough to follow but did present its challenges. Thank you so much!

Yes, this is it!

The first time I sewed the coat it was quite tricky also because the pattern description is in englisch and I am Austrian. But after sewing the first test piece it was okey. Because I shortened the coat I skipped the pockets from the pattern and created my own (smaller, just big enough for a pocket watch ;D) ...So I hope you have a lot of fun. I wore my coat together with a costume at a medival festival near my home town and enjoyed it a lot! (not the acurate time I know, but it was a nice oppurtunity)...and I think I'll use it for my mad hatter costume next Halloween.

That sounds really awesome! I would love to see photographs.

I'm American, so English was no problem for me but I can understand your difficulty! I actually was in love with the long version, and it was almost as if someone had taken my character image right out of my head and made it. My friend had made me a very embellished top hat with peacock feathers, buttons, and a large tulle veil that was screaming to have a matching outfit, so I went with the hunter green satin as the character from my story would also wear. I am very excited any time I have the excuse to wear the outfit or even just the coat. :iconfoxdanceplz:

Yes, me too... having excuses for being dressed in some costumes. Mostly movie previews or something like that. Halloween or carneval.

I've planned to shot the whole outfit with a friend who is photographer since a long but there was no good opportunity yet. The coat/jacket belongs to a whole outfit I sewed for a book she wrote some years ago. It is s fantasy book for kids and called "Flugstein" (unfortunately atm just in german and as an ebook via amazon and some similar stores for sale). But we planned to do the shot as soon as I finished the second outfit. :)
